Why You Should Help Shake the Planet
"We are playing Russian roulette with features of the planet's atmosphere that will profoundly impact generations to come. How long are we willing to gamble?" - David Suzuki
6.7 billion people are playing a dangerous game of tug of war with Mother Nature…
and she’s on the losing end.
This beautiful planet suffers daily from our trashy behavior and bad habits. Our world, our home, is continually being inundated with litter.
250 billion cigarette butts are littered every year in the USA alone. Littered cigarette filters contain toxic chemicals that leak into the air and water.
It is estimated that 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year. Point blank, plastic bag litter is lethal. They use up natural resources, consume energy to manufacture, create massive amounts of litter and choke marine life, literally to death.
Our oceans are now known as global sewers. The North Pacific Subtropical Gyre, known as ‘The Garbage Patch’ is at least twice the size of Texas. Hovering midway between Hawaii and San Francisco, it is filled with trash, mostly comprised of plastic bottles.
While Diapers are disposable, our planet is not. It takes 250,000 trees annually to produce diapers in the USA. 800 million pounds of paper goes into the manufacturing of ten billion diapers.
Plastic bags, cigarettes, bottles and diapers are just a few ugly examples. Debris is constantly found at subway stations, lunch counters and bus stops, even though trash receptacles are conveniently provided.
